Transverse thoracic aortic constriction (TAC) was performed as originaly described (Rockman et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 88:8277-8281 on eight-week-old adult mice (C57Bl/6xSJL, The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine, USA). Sham operated mice were subjected to the same procedure except for the aortic ligation. Left ventricles were collected at the indicated time after surgery.
