Notch3 expression was analyzed in ten patients suffering from colorectal carcinoma and corresponding normal colon tissue.

RNA was isolated from colorectal carcinoma tissue using the RNeasy Kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) according to the manufacturer´s protocol. The RNA was digested by DNAse. RNA quality and quantity was assessed by the 'Lab-on-a-Chip' method (Bioanalyzer 2100, Agilent Technologies, Palo Alto, CA, USA) following the manufacturer´s instructions. The 3´/5´-ratios of GAPDH and ß-actin present on the GeneChip were used as further parameters for RNA quality. A 3´/5´-ratio below 3 indicated good RNA quality as suggested by Affymetrix.
